Master appearance can be changed but saved to only a new appearance state that will be auto-activated after creation
Default appearance can be changed
Editing appearances enables you to change. However when clearing assembly assigned appearances shown, your input is requested as to whether to remove appearances from active state only or from all active and non-active states including the default.
